Creating a Community

We’re stronger together than we are apart. Our Regional Advanced Edmonton Laboratory (REAL) is living proof of that, as a living Synthetic City.

Initially developed with investment from Edmonton Global and supported by dozens of partner organizations, REAL has brought together solutionary leaders in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region (EMR) to tackle complex problems with Synthetic Data.

These partners include municipal governments, urban planning and growth boards, and organizations involved in economic development, post-secondary education, tourism, health, social impact, and industry.

Our partners choose relevant topics for collective exploration, and these findings are explored quarterly with the entire stakeholder group, who then take the insights back to their organizations and communities.

Building a City

Utilizing our visualization and simulation environment, REAL provides our regional partners with the unprecedented ability to forecast and visualize policy, investment, technology, and environmental impacts and model complex scenarios — playing forward time in a living, digital laboratory.

With a staggering number of data points, our Synthetic Twin visualizes across six dimensions: the 3D built environment, people, context, and time.

This allows us to discuss, explore, evaluate and augment the future impacts of today’s most significant decisions.

Finding our Solutions

Since its launch in 2023, REAL has conducted deep dives into various vital topics, including, but not limited to, energy burden, youth belonging, international student caps, logistics, and immigration and migration.

REAL was also awarded the “AsTech Innovation of the Year” in 2023.

We’re privileged and honored to act as both a source of actionable insight and converged data and a place where the leaders in our community can unite towards visibly better futures in our region.
