The Necessity of Diversified Transportation

If 2025’s tariff complications have taught industry anything, it’s that having diversified market access is no longer a luxury.

Businesses that can more efficiently connect and broker with markets and trading partners are more likely to remain stable in times of economic uncertainty.

But this adaptation requires leveraging on well-developed, reliable, and diversified transportation infrastructure.

Edmonton as a Key Hub

The Edmonton Metropolitan Region is an international manufacturing, cargo, and global logistics hub due to it’s strategic location and direct access to rail, road, and air logistical infrastructure.

This presented a huge opportunity for stakeholders and industry leaders in the region: how can we best maintain and improve our position as an international hub?

RUNWITHIT Synthetics developed a comprehensive analysis of the current state of transportation and logistics along with projections and recommendations for future development.

Finding the Roadmap for the Future

We surveyed the region’s established infrastructure, including associated costs, cargo, and revenue streams, in addition to identifying the barriers to growth: aging infrastructure, skilled labour shortages, and global competition.

We converged these and many more datasets for all aspects of transportation in the region, and developed specific strategies and opportunities to create multi-modal, sustainable, and globally connected “Port Alberta” in the Edmonton Metropolitan Region.

From there, we projected that final payoff: the high-fidelity, data-backed ROI to prove exactly why investing in transportation infrastructure could be a game-changer for industry, manufacturing, and business in the region.
